WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN

LOVE the internet!! We didn't even know. We were searching for something entirely different, and came up with one of the nicest MARATHON & SPORTING EVENTS entries to date, so we will keep in this theme for the whole month.

Please meet...
This has got us all emotional, as it redefines what we are doing with our blogging, which will become more apparent in the next few months, but it also redefines our purpose in life, love and health, and why we should be living a life of wellness. It also reminds us how and why living life to the fullest isn't just about us as individuals.

This event is awesome, lets explain quickly.  Its a running race like no other, and it has come to Cape Town's Winelands with participants racing their WORLD RIVALS to the backdrop of mountains, vineyards and orchards.

2014 saw 35 397 runners in 32 different countries start a race at exactly the same time , racing ahead of a Catcher Car instead of a finish line. (HOW COOL???!!!)
The Cape saw runners race the loop from Boschendal Wine Estate through the Franschhoek Valley, and last year 35 year old Coolboy Ngamole ran for 59.84 kms before he was eventually caught by the car.

Whats this CATCHER CAR story? Well this is what sets the race apart from any other, and what makes this race not only a feel-good race, but its totally awesome and really unique.

Basically, the car has some clever technology that activates when you run past at the start of the race and logs your distance when it passes you....when that happens, your race is over.

So basically you have to beat the car, its a moving finish line....but don't worry, it gives you a head start of 30 minutes. The car will cruse past each runner to the lead runner, when it does that, it game over for everyone. Again, don't panic, yet, it only travels at 15kph for the first hour and 16kph for the 2nd hour and 17kph for the 3rd, 20kph for the 4th & 5th hour and 35kph after 5 hours, until  the last runner has been caught.

And no, you cant catch a lift...haha, but they will send a shuttle service for you when you are done.

Told you it was cool.

The GLOBAL CHAMPIONS are the last man and woman worldwide to be passed by their respective Catcher Cars, with each country having a National Champion.

The WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN, is about running for those who cant, and is for any ability, including wheelchair participants.

WINGS FOR LIFE is a non-profit organization that funds research into finding a cure for spinal cord injury, ALL proceeds go to the foundation.

The SOUTH AFRICAN run is in Cape Town, MAY 3rd, 2015 @ 13:00.

SPAR WOMEN'S CHALLENGE - Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. (9th MAY) (Road Running, Marathons & Sporting Events)

Sorry boys....This isn't about you...Ladies Only!!!

Meet.....

The SPAR Women's Race began in 1992 as a way to get women of all ages, shapes and sizes, together to enjoy a safe 5km or 10k run, and enjoy the day. The atmosphere is supportive and everyone is welcome to register and take part, regardless of whether they run regularly, or are just starting out.

There is competitive element for those who need that streak in their stride, its the SPAR Grand Prix, where professional runners were invited to take part in all of the regional races and compete for a cash prize. The Top 10 Runners in the open category and the first three in the four age categories all receive cash prizes. Runners finishing in the Top 20 places each receive points, with the winner earning 20 points and the 20th placed runner one point.

As further incentive, an age category runner can also earn points by finishing in the top 5 places in her category, which means that age category runners can compete on equal terms with athletes at the peak of their careers.....and if real competition is not your thing, you can just run for the fun of it, or walk it, but just do it. Hopefully, if anything, get your wellness on in an environment that encourages healthy living and aim for the competitive side in you to come out.

This is a really popular event drawing in more than 14 000 entrants and not only takes place in the Eastern Cape, Port Elizabeth, but also in Cape Town, Durban, Jo'burg a Pretoria.

NEON RUN - Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal. (Road Running, Marathons & Sporting Events)

So excited to reporting on this again, did it last year and it seriously is more than a run, its a TOTAL JOL!!!! Such an awesome concept!!! So excited to add it to our list of MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS!!!

Its baaaack.....ta da duhhhhhhh....

READY, SET, GLOW!!!

Ever been to a race where to GLOW is the only fashion sense, its whats both desired and required, other than actually having fun while you run a race. Its South Africa's most ELECTRIC NIGHT ROAD RACE EVENT where individuals either Run, Cycle, Skate or Walk a 5km route covered in total Neon attire and body paint.

We think the point is not to even try and win, although you can get competitive, the point is first and foremost, to have fun, hence the dress code....and everyone dresses up, trust us, don't be left out. You'll just look silly.

Prepare o be wonder-struck as you 'glide' through different Glow Zones throughout the race that brings both Neon and complete giddy joy into your life.

And its not one of those races where you run, win...or not, and then go home with or without a medal, no sirs and ma'am's, because at the finish line is where it actually all really starts. You end your run in an incredible neon explosion of colour, life, lights, sound and some of SA's best performance artists who will entertain you well into the late evening hours....we just think they make you run to earn your party, and its a party of note.

This years line-up at various events already includes....MiCasa, DJ's Fresh & your naughty Uncle Rogie, Roger Goode, as well as Chris Taylor, Desmond & the Tutu's, GoodLuck, Grassy Spark, Rubber Duc...to name a few...its total madness, and ANYONE can do this run, but you have to run in order to party...ok?!.

PLEASE.DONT.MISS.OUT.YOU.WILL.REGRET.IT.WE.PROMISE!!!

HYUNDAI ROCK THE RUN, Sandton, Gauteng. (ROAD RUNNING)

THIS IS AWESOME!!! So glad we got to this in time for you all to get involved, HYUNDAI ROCK THE RUN, is such a fun run, and its actually damn hard, well for us it was, and in us I mean me, who is writing this blog. Seriously it only requires you to Run/ Walk 5km, or gets a little serious and run the 10km, or get lank woes and go balls to the wall and do the big boy, 21kms, or do that twice, because that's your thing. WE will be doing the 5km this year, maybe twice, or just once and then go to the ROCK FIELD, and have an early morning dop.

Yes, this event has entertainment...LOTS OF IT!!!

That's why its called, ROCK-the-Run, BECAUSE you can ROCK & RUN, seriously, this is the best way to get your run on, as not only is there a ROCK CONCERT at the end of the race in the lovely little Mushroom Park Venue, BUT there are DJ's and BANDS along the route too. SO, you don't have to get too serious about this run, but if you do, you'll not only hear the breeze in your ears, as you zoom past other rocker-runners, but you may hear the feint sound of MANGO GROOVE, MiCASA, Annnnnnd MATTHEW MOLE!!!

The concert starts at 9am, and the race starts @ 7:30am

BUT HURRY, entries close on he 14th of February, and  the event is on Sunday, the 1st March.
