QUAD BIKING with INDUNA ADVENTURES

Whoohoooo, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!!

TRAVEL & RELAXATION, ok, so you might think we've got things wrong here, as this may not come across as relaxing, at all, but its the fun factor, the thrill factor, THAT, that part that excites us, creates endorphin rushes and all that stuff, which ultimately makes us happy, which relaxes us! See, we are still on that part, the relax part, and we make you travel to parts of the country you should be seeing more often...ahem, done, dusted, sorted!!!

Meet, QUAD BIKING with....

Quad Biking & Quad Bikes, or, to be more precise, ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES, are fun things, toys,  really big ones. They are noisy, like a motor bike, and whatever you do with them, you will more than likely get messy, but more likely than that, you wont want to get off, ever, like in ever ever.

They are so easy to ride, especially if an automatic, and they really can cover most terrain thrown at them, you don't have to balance them like a bike, which requires clever 'leaning' techniques, but then fun part is riding it like a biker, acting all cool, but safer, but still just as cool... its also the best way to view the world.

Located outside HAZYVIEW on the PANORAMA ROUTE, just 20 minutes from the KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, INDUNA ADVENTURES is one of the biggest QUAD BIKING TRAIL operatorsin the country with more than 40 quad bikes in their fleet. They take pride in their unique trails, professional guides and Quality Suzuki Quads. The trails follow hand cut quad tracks through indigenous forests and blue gum plantations, through to spectacular waterfall view points.

They have 1-hour, 2-hour and our best, a 4-hour trail. (DO THAT ONE!)

They also have a whole host of other really cool activities, such White Water Tubing, River Rafting, Paintballing, Zip-lining...REALLY a playground of adventure and fun!!!

SHIP WRECK HIKING & CANOE TRAILS

This might be hard work, but its a heavenly experience at the same time. So remember that we are focusing on 'Adventure Activities' in this months FITNESS TRAINING & ACTIVITIES, where we obviously will include activities that are strenuous and are considered a good physical workout, but also where we are primarily focused on doing activities that feel more like its about the experience, and the excitement and fun, and less about the exercise....well we found another adventure that'll  leave you wanting more, and fully exhausted from the workout aspect.

Meet...

This week we see ourselves in the beautiful Eastern Cape, more specifically Port Alfred, well close-ish to there. We thought it best you take the KLEINEMONDE WEST RIVER CANOE TRAIL, it seems like the best balance of hiking and canoeing, as well as the best balance of an overall workout, and therefor the best start to this kind of adventure.

The Kleinemonde West River Canoe Trail is a self-guided adventure and the price includes the hire of the canoes, life jackets and hikers accommodation. There is a sleep over in the Nyala Game Reserve and a paddle back the next day.

So its a FULL-ON 2-3day outing, totally a brilliant weekend away. You will experience the beauty of the river, which is not tidal, while you paddle in comfortable canoes to the Lily Pad overnight hut, and its an easy 8km paddle.  You will be able to spot spoonfills, ducks, herons, cormorants on the river bank at first, but then as the river narrows, you will see different kingfishers, (The Giant, Pied, Half-Collared, Malachite & perhaps Pygmy). Listen for the call of the Fish Eagles, see Knysna Louries flying above you, notice the groups of red-knobbed coots or badchicks diving ahead as you pass up stream.

Just beyond the 8km mark, the canoes are pulled into the river bank, and you will hike 3km's to the Lily Pad, which is rustic but comfortable, outdoor showers, covered lapas, bunk beds, braai area etc... The timber deck overlooks the river for relaxing and listening to the birds. There is PLENTY of game too see as you walk around the Nyala Valley Game Reserve.

Then there is another 6km hike and a 16 km canoe return...its just simply a heavenly way to exercise, canoe, hike, eat, sleep, hike, canoe...hey, it works!!!

The trail is situated 15km from Port Alfred on the East London side of the R72.

URBAN MTB ASSAULT

How about some wheels, enough running already, lets get on a bike and trail the mountains, so much better on the knees hey?!

This month for MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS, we decided to keep on the trail side of things, but by bike, and this first event is even more exiting than the others we've blogged.

Meet the....

This is a first for Jozi, the Hollard Jozi Urban MTB Adventure (JUMA), comprizing of a 52km & 22km through the heart of the biggest urban forest in the world....JOZI, our city!

Partnering with City Parks & Johannesburg Zoo, JUMA has created a route that will take you on an adventure, starting at Marks Park Emmarentia and taking you over 2 floating bridge dam crossings, and green belts that you've only seen in pictures, through storm water drains & tunnels, one so long you'll this its an abyss, nightmare stuff that will leave you mesmerised once JUMA is done with them.

They'll even throw in a few rapids, one that's on steps, it's guaranteed to bring out the kid in you. This marvellous adventure continues through one of Jo'burgs most beautiful golf courses, under highway bridges and over main roads on scaffolding bridges.

Safety and Security is their concern, but please note that every jungle comes with some danger, but JUMA has spared no expense to keep you safe. There are rescue divers in the 120m long deep-water crossing, 112 security guards en route and there are 3 air-quality control Marshall's, 20 ventilation fans, mine tunnel lighting systems and 6 generators...lord this sounds like its potentially nasty & exciting beyond expectations, WHAHOO!!!!! BRING IT!

Their words, ahem, "Most sports require one ball, but if you have 2, then this is for you..." Oi

the Course build cost nearly R1.5m, and there is something for everyone. So if ramping into vast expanses you never knew existed, that make you feel like a combination of Erik Kleinhans & Bear Grylls, and you are not a sissie, then this is for you. (All levels of riders are accepted.)

Look at this course video...

BERG & BEACH TRAIL RUN

The last week of each month is going to be hard, as we focus on a specific area within each daily category, and we have to choose which is the best to put last and leave the rest, MAN THIS IS HARD, we really are so incredibly blessed in South Africa to have what we have and how we find the means to enjoy it.

In MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS, our focus was Trail Running Events & Marathons, and we found this beauty of an event, as hardcore as it is, have a look...

Before we go too far into telling you about it, have a look at the where it is part....man-alive, wow...
BA-YOU-TI-FUL!!!

OK, enough, so the BERG & BEACH TRAIL RUN, or the MOUNTAIN & COAST TRAI RUN, is in HERMANUS, one of our, 'ONE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES ON EARTH, let-alone-South-Africa', choices, and it celebrates the beauty of Hermanus by taking you all the way through it.

Its a toughie, no lies, as Day 1 is the the BEACH/COAST Trail run of only 23kms, and Day 2 is the MOUNTAIN & TRAIL RUN.
And if you want their is a 11km as a Day 3, should you feel inspired.

Day 1 starts out on an old 4x4 track along the cliffs overlooking the bay for about 4km before dropping down onto the beach itself. After a couple of crossing over some rocky sections, the beach opens up and runners will be wedged between sand dunes and water on hard packed sand.

The area is pristine and runners will often see the TOBY or OYSTER Catcher Bird, and the run tales place during the Southern Right Whale Breeding Season, so you are bound to see them close inshore whilst you run. (AWESOME)

The start time is at low-tide, which will provide at least a 4-hour window of hard sand, however it is unsure if the river mouth will open, so runners may need to cross the mouth at low-tide, but you will be monitored so nobody is in danger. (Makes it more fun we say)
The run continues along the cliff path to Mossel River and follows it under the main road eventually finishing at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve botanical garden.

Day 2, starts on a tarred road, leading into a single track hking trail for 99% of the remainder of the race. The tracks contour up towards the Top of the Mountain and Fernkloof Nature Reserve making it possible to run most of the climb. (because that's easier than walking...)

The views are 2nd to none, as you will be traversing valleys, ridges and plateaus rich in fynbos, bird life & higher up the Klipspringer, kilometer for kilometer, this is one of the best trails you'll ever run along with all its vistas. (Nice ne'?!)
