Ooooh, we found a real goodie, and surprise surprise, its all happening in the fairest Western Cape, SO  UNFAIR, they really do have everything that's uber cool there, AND AGAIN, making a decision was seriously difficult as there really is a phenomenal selection. But still, we're happy, cause we can visit, repeatedly and do them all.

This month we are focusing on ORGANIC FOOD MARKETS in South Africa, as part of our MEDIA & GASTRONOMY section, and we are also making fabulous mention of the Foodie/ Market Sites that we found them on.

www.capemarkets.co.za is the creation of Pia Taylor, creator and editor or Mother City Living, a popular blog dedicated to green-living in Cape Town. You'll see her, every weekend, basket in hand, foraging happily at fresh produce and craft markets, festivals and fairs. 

And thank goodness for that, she obviously is really scoping out the talent and bringing it to us in a fabulous blog/ website format that allows us the inside scope of whats awesome in the world of market-ing, and where to find the organic/ fresh produce markets. So often this is the best, or only, way to shop for your weekly stock up, cause you can see the freshness. and you can tell that these farmers products are good to go chemical free produce. 

Wow, has she found a stack of awesome places to go to, and has made it so easy to find what you want, as there is a CALENDAR OF EVENTS & MARKET BUZZ, but more importantly, there are the MARKETS & PRODUCERS search engines, and there you will find Market Days, Market Types, Market Locations and Annual Markets. 

She also provides a Featured Markets section and gives us an Editors Pick selection. and in the PRODUCERS section its further separated to Food & Drink, Crafts & Goods, as well as Body & Mind. And she gives you the inside scoop on many of the Producers and the products. LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!

So we choose one of our favourite markets, and this is it... EARTH MARKET FAIR!!!

This fabulous market isn't just a one-spotter market, as there are two actually, one is found in the Main Rd Tokai, on a Wednesday & Saturday, and the other is found in the beautiful tree lined Upper St Georges Mall, but only on a Thursday. 

Each market has its own identity, the Saturday Tokai Market is all about the weekly shopping, and Wednesday is a buzzing hub of top up shopping, delicious dinner and drinks stuff, which is super clever, we like. As for the Thursday St Georges St Market, that's a vibey outdoor market in the heart of the City, and the best option we might have for a European street market, in the Cape. Both markets giving you the best of the Cape. 

Earth Fair has the best selection of fresh produce shopping traders in the Cape. The Saturday Market has 5 free-range meat traders, 2 vegetable traders, 1 being organic, and there are cheese, breads, speciality breads, fish, farm dairy, patisserie, pet foods and pretty much everything you would need for your weekly shop. 

There are even Craft Beers and Little Peoples Corners, so awesome, its a total family affair.

HAZEL FOOD MARKET & SLOW FOOD JOHANNESBURG - Pretoria, Gauteng. (GASTRONOMY & FOODIE MARKETS)

Considering that 80% of what we look like, and feel like, is a direct result of what we eat, we thought that a day dedicated to food is as important as the days dedicated to exercise and the likes thereof. 

Our food is also has a direct, and strong, influence on the onset of, prevention of and recovery from Non-Communicable Diseases, and managing of Communicable Diseases, and while we may not overtly be blogging about the science behind each of those, we know that finding as many healthy-er options thereof when it comes to Gastronomy, either reminding you of, or introducing to options you never even knew existed, is a very important task. BUT, we also decided that what ever we report needs to excite both the mind and the tongue....YOU MUST SALIVATE!!! 

So in this months GASTRONOMY focus, we thought we'd kill two queens with one handbag, and find the really awesome and enticing ORGANIC FOODIE MARKETS in SOUTH AFRICA. 

Remembering that HEALTHY involves many features, and we are starting with as many natural chemical free products, as we can find, that involves less meat and more fruit & vegetables, both fairly treated, with as little wheat, dairy and sugar as possible, but not necessarily a complete exclusion, and more fresh foods with a minimal shelf life, and less pre-packaged products with an extended shelf life....sound fair?

We also managed to find FOOD MARKET WEBSITES, awesome ones, each quite unique and we searched their databases and found some awesome places for you get your shopping done.

So lets begin, meet....

Firstly, lets start with SLOW FOOD, its a VERY interesting one this, firstly its international, and has supporters in 150 countries, including our lovely Sunny South Africa, featuring Johannesburg, Cape Town, Magalies Valley, Durban & Pietermaritzberg Convivium's, or chapters . 

As a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat peoples dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices effect us and the world around us. They work to ensure that everyone has access to good, clean and fair food.

They believe that food is tied to many other aspects of life, including culture, politics, agriculture and the environment. Through our food choices we can collectively influence how food is cultivated, produced and distributed, and as a result bring about great change. 

Slow Food Johannesburg has been around since 2001 and has about 95 members. 

"Despite living in the city, which means that direct contact with farmers and food producers is not always possible, we're committed to eating seasonably, locally and sustainable by supporting small producers and responsible retailers". 

They will guide you and give you access to workshops, farms and small producers, cultural dinners and farmer's markets and seasonal harvest tables.

We found this lovely gem of a Market on this site, exactly what we were looking for. 

OMG DYING HERE.....THIS MARKET IS FILLED WITH SO MUCH YUM, YOU'LL GO MAD!!!

Annnd we're breathing, ok...so they are based in Menlo Park Pretoria, and are open every Saturday until 2pm, I think sometimes they have night markets, enquire about that. 
They launched as a drive to collect money for the Abraham Kriel Children's Home in Nylstroom, but they strive to provide you with the best food products Pretoria has to offer, especially Fresh Fruit, Veggies and Meats, to Tarts, Sweets, Fresh Breads, Homegrown Herbs and Deli Products, all straight from the producer, which ultimately means healthier, chemical free products. The trick is to eat less of the fattening stuff, so try minimise the wheat, sugar and dairy products and buy more of the healthy slimming stuff. (But maybe use this as a cheat day and eat the naughty stuff there, and buy the good stuff to take home.,,,deal?!)

Straight off the cuff, this is the best thing yet, we went in blind, hoping that we'd find what we wanted, and we found WAY MORE than we expected, WHAT A PLEASURE!!!!

In this month we are featuring ONLINE SHOPPING SITES that have adequate to phenomenal WELLNESS, HEALTH & FITNESS provisions, and this company is flying!!!! SO IMPRESSED!!!

Please meet...

We immediate found a user friendly access to both the categories HEALTH & BEAUTY, as well as SPORTS & OUTDOOR, both where we wanted to land up, and its right there on the front page without having to scroll down, BA-BOOM! Made easy!

Then we clicked on HEALTH & BEAUTY and were even more impressed, as we found as easy to use further split categories, with some products we have never seen before. 

With in the HEALTH section, we had BEST SELLERS, FOR WOMEN, FOR MEN,FOR CHILDREN, and within each of those another set of categories....THANK YOU KALAHARI for making this easy, man some sites make it hard!!!

Then we clicked on to SPORTS & FITNESS and we found both SPORTS & BRAND specific tags, including YOGA, FITNESS & TONING, and CROSS-FIT ACCESSORIES, and SO much more. 

So loving this site, now we just have to exercise more....and money, LOTS OF MONEY, although they offer seriously good discounts and deals, check them out.
