MAGOEBASKLOOF MTB CLASSIC CHALLENGE - Limpopo

MTB Challenges are the order of the day in MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS this month, and jirre, but some these challenges are WOES ne'?!
We tried to pick what we think is a tough race, but not going to scare the crapples out of your first maybe-I-should-do-a-MTB-challenge attempt.

Meet....

Now again, the area we find ourselves in is MAG.NI.FI.CENT, wow, the truely beautiful Magoebaskloof in the Limpopo Province. We haven't visited here yet, and its about time.

Now the Stanford Lake College, in Haenertsburg Limpopo, is the host of this fantastic event, and alll registration details are available through them @ SLC MTB CHALLENGE

But lets back-track a bit and discuss the actual race... The Magoesbaskloof MTB Challenge came about after Gray Braadvedt & Rudi Viljoen sparked the brilliant idea of hosting a MTB event in the beautiful surroundings of the Limpopo Province. Its is a spectacular area with immaculate scenery and some of the best bike trails South Africa has to offer, so its only a natural choice for a race event.

Any event of this nature draws the community in and opens up travel and tourism gateways, and taking to Standford Lake College brings the youth in too.

The actual race has 4 options, ranging from the "I JUST WANNA FEEL WHAT ITS LIKE TO SIT ON A BIKE" race of 5kms the "IMA GONNA TEAR THIS RACE APART" version which is 80kms, but it doesnt matter which one you do, or how competitive you are, hell you might find yourself totally distracted by the scenery that you forget you are even in a race, and that's ok too, isn't it?!

Have a look at these pics of the area and of the race...

FEDGROUP BERG & BUSH MTB CHALLENGE

MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS sees us visiting Kwa-Zulu Natal for a MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE like no other, wowzles, 217kms of MTB Endurance riding, now that's a challenge. BRING IT!!!

Meet the

The FedGroup BERG & BUSH actually has three races, the DECENT, the 2-DAY, and the one we are investigating, the GREAT TREK.

Again, half the reason you should do this is for the view, the breathing space, and the sheer glory of celebrating what we have in this damn fine country to be proud of, our vast open spaces and beautiful places.

Now the GREAT TREK ain't easy, hell's no, its three full days of pure exhaustion, but we think it'll be worth it. It takes place on the 14th, 15th & 16th of October this year, (so hurry if you want to take part), which sees the distances split up from 97km on Day 1, 70kms on Day 2 & 50 kms on Day 3.
The race starts at THE BORDER POST on top of Oliviershoek Pass and finishes at Emseni Camp, 15kms from Winterton, on the banks of the Tugela River.

There is an overnighter tented camp at Emseni camp, near Spionkop, for the nights of the 14th & 15th, or you can choose your own accommodation that they advise you of.

It seems like the perfect adventure, camping under the stars, riding the hell out of your day, seeing the beauty of the KZN, meeting new friends, totally awesome concept. We love it.

URBAN MTB ASSAULT

How about some wheels, enough running already, lets get on a bike and trail the mountains, so much better on the knees hey?!

This month for MARATHONS & SPORTING EVENTS, we decided to keep on the trail side of things, but by bike, and this first event is even more exiting than the others we've blogged.

Meet the....

This is a first for Jozi, the Hollard Jozi Urban MTB Adventure (JUMA), comprizing of a 52km & 22km through the heart of the biggest urban forest in the world....JOZI, our city!

Partnering with City Parks & Johannesburg Zoo, JUMA has created a route that will take you on an adventure, starting at Marks Park Emmarentia and taking you over 2 floating bridge dam crossings, and green belts that you've only seen in pictures, through storm water drains & tunnels, one so long you'll this its an abyss, nightmare stuff that will leave you mesmerised once JUMA is done with them.

They'll even throw in a few rapids, one that's on steps, it's guaranteed to bring out the kid in you. This marvellous adventure continues through one of Jo'burgs most beautiful golf courses, under highway bridges and over main roads on scaffolding bridges.

Safety and Security is their concern, but please note that every jungle comes with some danger, but JUMA has spared no expense to keep you safe. There are rescue divers in the 120m long deep-water crossing, 112 security guards en route and there are 3 air-quality control Marshall's, 20 ventilation fans, mine tunnel lighting systems and 6 generators...lord this sounds like its potentially nasty & exciting beyond expectations, WHAHOO!!!!! BRING IT!

Their words, ahem, "Most sports require one ball, but if you have 2, then this is for you..." Oi

the Course build cost nearly R1.5m, and there is something for everyone. So if ramping into vast expanses you never knew existed, that make you feel like a combination of Erik Kleinhans & Bear Grylls, and you are not a sissie, then this is for you. (All levels of riders are accepted.)

Look at this course video...
