BALLET for ADULTS

DON'T KNOCK IT...EVER, there are more benefits to this exercise and dance form that you ever imagined, and EVERYONE should at least give it a 6-month go at it, it'll change your life.

PROMISE!!!!

This month, for FITNESS TRAINING & ACTIVITIES, we are focusing on DANCE EXERCISE, and today we focus on BALLET.

Lets never question how amazing a ballet body can be....

or how incredibly graceful, sexy and ridiculously hard this form of exercise can be....

But most importantly, what we want you to consider, is what this discipline can do for your overall presentation, your posture, your general strength, your poise, your core, your muscle shape and trust me, if Rugby boys could add various elements of ballet training into their training regimes, as silly as that sounds, they'd win far more matches, guaranteed!

This is probably one of the hardest disciplines and if added to Cross-fit workouts, you'd be set.
JUST TRY IT!!!!

"I gained strength in every part of my body.  Ballet exercises all your muscles.  I used ballet to change the shape of my body.  I was always a sporty person and had very bulky thighs.  Ballet lengthened my muscles tremendously.  I did other dance forms e.g. African Dance which shortens muscles and ballet helped even it out.  Ballet helped me become more disciplined in life.  As a child I was a bit of a ‘tomboy’ and I was running around bullying my friends.  Ballet had a part to play in grooming and disciplining me.  I learnt to be well behaved and where my place is in certain situations.  I like the way I move when I do ballet.  I enjoy the structure it brings me and it helped me with all my other dance forms.  I will never stop doing ballet and will dance until my very end.”

One of the best places in the country to go for open lessons, from total beginners to advanced, is that of the Joburg City Ballet @ joburgballet.com

More inspiration....

VERTICAL VIXEN

FITNESS TRAINING & ACTIVITIES can include such a wide variety of exercise options, we're just happy if you get your heart rate up, and your body moving, anything is a start, but exercise is allowed to be fun, it really is, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. So if you are not a fan of large machinery, or downward dogs, then maybe try dancing, and if you are a fan of running, and any other exercise named after an animal, add dancing anyway, its harder than you think, more stimulating than many other forms of exercise, and it's sure to put a smile on your face and some redness in your cheeks.

We thought we'd focus on dance based exercise that 'seems' easier to start with than other more professional forms, and you get benefit on day one.

Lets start with Pole Dancing with...

I know right?!, How 'easy' is it supporting your entire body weight whilst suspended on a pole and then try look cool and sexy??? What are we thinking?!!

Well if this lovely lady can do it, you can...

Its actually alot easier than you think, AND SO MUCH FRIGGEN FUN, who cares if you look sexy, lets start with the benefits, we'll get to sexy later.

Pole Dancing is no more just a seedy strip bars main source of income, because firstly the ladies in those clubs are way fitter and way sexier than any one fresh of a treadmill, and their confidence is 200% better than a beauty queen's. And while we are not advocating performing at a strip bar, we are saying don't knock the benefits of the great big metal pole, its a lethal combination strength and flexibility, and you'll be sore in places you didn't even know had muscles. BUT YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Julie Swart started Vertical Vixen in 2007 with the goal of offering pole dance as a form of exercise alongside other alternative fitness classes. The Vertical Vixen crew strive to keep the classes fun, as they work towards a common goal with all their clients which is to keep fit, happy, healthy and totally stretch the capasity of the mind and body.

They actually have a variety of classes to suit your needs, experience and current fitness levels, from stretch & fitness classes, through to pole conditioning, fitness and dance. (Its the same studio as Aerial Yoga, which is an amazing combination of exercise ideas and ideals.)

Pole dancing has become hugely popular worldwide, as the benefit is astounding, the overall physical strength, stamina and agility will never be found on a rugby field or a treadmill, and the toning benefits are amazing, the more professional participants look HOT! REALLY HOT!!!!

There is even an international pole dancing competition, and its fiercely competitive, these ladies are in it to win, what they put themselves through is incredible, but it pays off.

(Have a look at Julie's videos below, one in studio and the other at a performance, its breathtaking.)

But before we end this chat, the benefits of pole dancing are many, and include:
Weight-loss
Improved overall tone
Improved strength and endurance (its exausting)
Strong core muscles
Improved felxibility, rythem and co-ordination,
But the best part, is increased self-confidence, body image and shape, you will feel sexy, and powerful.

AND ITS NOT ONLY FOR LADIES, guys, seriously, before you knock this, we challenge you to try it...
