PRIMAL GYM - SOMETHING DIFFERENT & TOTALLY COOL (Rosebank, Gauteng)

So our aim was not to blog twice on Gauteng this month, but we couldn't let this one go because its actually the one we've been saving for last. 

We have'y tried it, yet, but we really want to, as it really is an awesome combination of training ideas and principles, which is what we are all about, mixing it up to make more sense of how your body can, and will, function optimally if trained in various formats, or at least giving the opportunity to. 

Meet...

That says it all, but lets get a little deeper here, PRIMAL GYM, may not be for the feint hearted, but then life isn't, but these guys are going to get you there. 

Born in 2009, PRIMAL GYM is the brain child of the power team Ryan & Zanelee Davies, and is a one of a kind professional and uniquely South African Martial Arts and Cross-Fit lifestyle brand that offers one complete wellness coaching product and service. 

They teach and preach what they believe to be essential life skills....something we all need!

They have 4 core principles, STRENGTH, MOBILITY, SELF-PRESERVATION & LONGEVITY, which they breakdown like this:

Strength, is first above everything else, and they believe that anyone can be strong, and they will help you get there. They think that Strength is something beautiful and should be wanted, desired and worked hard for. Now lets remember that strength does not mean huge bulky bodies, it means so much more, and includes a mind-set, and at the very least being able to move your body anyway you want to, or need to, without strain....that's strength. Big Bulky strength does not mean able...#justsaying.

Mobility, is where they want to make you and keep you at a mobile and able level. They will get you doing things that keep your body and mind guessing and evolving to a level that you may have previously thought not probable, you like when you watch someone else and think, if only...THAT'S what they can give you, provided you help them help you. 

Self-Preservation...now we like this addition, its the one people never really speak of, but always should....this is when you being kept happy and healthy...that's what really important to them. And at the core of what they do at PRIMAL is the teaching of preservation skills, you know this is the part when all fall apart, this is what will keep you there. They teach you how to fight smart, not hard, and give you awareness and confidence that allows you to "Walk in peace" (Imi Lightenfeild) 

Lastly, Longevity...they know full well that life is often hard and confusing, but they hope to provide a light of joy to your life. they believe that True Longevity is not how long you live, but rather how much you felt in your life. They just want you to be happy. (We like this, so our thing)

When martial arts & fitness enthusiasts Ryan & Zanalee Davies created PRIMAL KRAV MAGA, its other name, they knew they were creating something SOUTH AFRICA had not yet seen or experienced, it was to be a concept that would bring together the best in Martial Arts, Military Style Combatatives,as well as Strength and Conditioning programs, and the point was to provide a safe and accessible gym for us all to access all these methodologies.

THE GRID & VIRGIN ACTIVE BEACON BAY - SOMETHING DIFFERENT & TOTALLY COOL (Beacon Bay, Eastern Cape)

We found SOMETHING DIFFERENT & TOTALLY COOL, and its an insane workout, but doable, fun and really good for all aspects of training...WE-LOVE-IT!!!

Virgin Active has come up with a real cracker of a workout here, IT-IS-INCREDIBLE!!!.

Basically you take one Fitness Instructor, add six core movements and weights, mix them together with loud music, multiply it together with some high intensity....and you have THE GRID.

This is an exclusive class to Virgin Active International, and comes with an option of 6 CORE (BASE) MOVEMENTS, namely, BEND, LUNGE, PUSH, PULL, TWIST & SQUAT, and each governs daily groups of movements that we need functional training for, allowing us to better cope with both Natural Stresses and Strains of Daily Life, as well as Unnatural Stresses & Strains, these self imposed advanced movements that are required by whatever our preferred form of extra activities or sports are. Say for example you were entering a Warrior Race, this would be a GO-TO form of training, but sometimes we just need a little extra oomph to get off a bus whilst jumping over a puddle of water, and quickly, without injury....this is also your GO-TO!

How each Core Movement helps, is like this, THE BEND will help with putting things down, or picking things up, or dead lifts, if that's your thing. THE LUNGE will help you hop on a bus and chase a toddler quicker, those little suckers can get away fast these days, and you have to bend done to catch them. With THE PUSH, every door opens better, every boot shuts better, and every table is shoved better, hell you can shove two at once with this training. THE PULL will help you pick things up, climb things, and pull your car to work when you don't feel like driving and the idea of a stroll feels more up your alley. THE TWIST improves your dance skills after too many, BUT it also helps you complete random turns without straining your back or ankles. Its these buggers that get you when you least expect it. And THE SQUAT helps hen you need to get up quickly from a seated position, like when you need to chase to the phone because Harry from One Direction is calling, it also helps when you are digging in the bottom of the freezer for that last bit of ice-cream that you hid so well.

THE GRID will push you, it will pull you, squat you, lunge, bend and twist you into a new and seriously awesome new version of you. You only better, but moving the way you were designed to move.
Its Function Fitness at its finest, as each move involves your entire body, no isolation of any particular muscles, which means more calories burnt, and you get more out your workout and time, but in less time, as each session is only 30min long.

GRID helps with plateaued muscles of training, as its constantly being switched for you, you never really know what to expect, and this form of training benefits you in placing overall strain on your body, not just on one area....as this is often what causes injuries. Coordination, Balance & Stability are definite improved benefits. There are also so many different equipment options, ones you more than likely have never used before, at least not in a group format, so you will never get bored, but lets face it, you wont have time....

HOTPOD YOGA JOHANNESBURG - SOMETHING DIFFERENT, and TOTALLY COOL

So this month we decided to have a look at awesome things that just came our way by chance, things we weren't looking for, but are SO glad we found, and this is seriously  A-MA-ZING!!!! 

We think this may be one of the answers to everything...!
